Salomon Rondon's second-half header was enough to secure West Brom three points against a lacklustre Crystal Palace on the opening day of the season.
Wilfried Zaha came closest to opening the scoring for Palace, but he fluffed his lines in front of goal to allow Ben Foster to save.
Rondon's goal came with 15 minutes of the match remaining as he glanced a header towards the far post from James McClean's free-kick.
