Watford have made an enquiry to Bologna about midfielder Saphir Taider.
The French-born Algeria international had an inauspicious spell on loan at Southampton in 2014 where they questioned his commitment.
Taider, a creative midfielder, has been more impressive in a second spell at Bologna - - scoring four goals last season.
The 25-year-old began his career with Grenoble before moving on to the Italian side, where he netted three times in 48 league appearances for the club.
He then joined Inter Milan on a four-year deal but struggled to make an impact at the San Siro and was subsequently loaned to Southampton and Sassuolo, before returning to Bologna.
