Watford striker Troy Deeney has explained his double middle-finger gesture in celebration after his goal against Chelsea on Saturday was made in an effort to dispel rumours linking him with an exit from the club.
Deeney converted from the penalty spot to open the scoring in a 4-1 rout of the Premier League champions, and he told BBC 5 live Sport that his celebration was in response to January transfer gossip (h/t Kevin Beirne of Football.London).
"Obviously we have had a lot of transfer talk and transfer speculation," he said. "I've kept quiet because I realise talking gets me in trouble.
