Jarred Gillett will make Premier League history next Saturday as the first overseas referee to take charge of an English top-flight match.
The Australian has been working in the EFL since 2019 and has been chosen as the referee for Watford v Newcastle on Saturday, the biggest game of his career so far.
Sportsmail revealed in May that Gillett was among five candidates for promotion from the EFL to the Premier League this season.
Gillett, who is a FIFA international official, moved from Australia's top-flight to England's lower leagues in 2019, combining his refereeing duties with his studies at Liverpool John Moores university, where he was appointed as a post-doctoral researcher in cerebral palsy.
