The Washington Wizards nearly pulled off an upset over the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday but ran out of gas in a 109-103 contest at Wells Fargo Center.
After holding a brief 5-4 lead in the game’s opening minutes, the Wizards trailed for nearly the entire game. Washington’s deficit ballooned to as large as 17 points in a contest that seemed like it would be a blowout in Philly’s favor.
The game would have been much more lopsided if the Wizards hadn’t received a monster performance from Jared Butler. The fourth-year guard erupted for 26 points on an 11/19 shooting clip off the Wizards’ bench.
