Former Maryland standout, Dez Wells, was supposed to have a legitimate chance to make the Washington Wizards‘ roster this season. After going undrafted, Ernie Grunfeld quickly added Wells to Washington’s summer league team with hopes of potentially giving him a training camp invite in the future.
Unfortunately, an injury will sideline Dez Wells for the remainder of summer league and will likely end his chances of becoming a Wizard anytime soon:
Wells sprained his right thumb at practice Thursday in Washington and though he traveled with the team out West, he isn’t expected to play in any of the Wizards’ summer league games, according to two people with knowledge of the situation.
