Having not named a permanent replacement for Ernie Grunfeld before the NBA Draft, many were worried – or at least mildly confused – about what the Washington Wizards were doing. Then came the Rui Hachimura pick, and everyone seemed even more worried – or at least now severely confused – about what the Washington Wizards were doing.
However, as the night went on, it became clear that interim ship leader Tommy Sheppard and Wizards’ owner Ted Leonsis might actually have a plan. Or at least it seems they had a model for what they were looking for. There was certainly a theme to the types of players they were adding last night.
