Washington Wizards’ John Wall Named Finalist For NBA Cares Community Assist Award

For some reason there’s an idea among casual basketball fans that most NBA superstars have egos and aren’t supportive. They’re millionaires, after all, and they cannot relate to the regular public.

That idea, however, is totally untrue.

Believe it or not, most NBA players came from humble beginnings.

John Wall was raised by a single mother after his father passed away early in his childhood. She worked numerous jobs to keep his family intact. He grew up in a low-income household and his mother was often away from home.

He was a troubled kid, but with some guidance later in high-school, Wall was able to fulfill his dream by attending the University of Kentucky, ultimately becoming the first overall pick in the 2010 NBA Draft.
