To say the Washington Wizards entered a hostile environment at TD Garden to play the Boston Celtics, would be a gross understatement.
I swam with crocodiles in the Black River of Jamaica, and that was more welcoming.
I grew up the only black girl in an all white town, 20 miles south of Boston. Although Massachusetts is my home state, D.C. is my home, since I came here for college, etc. I knew the history, from a place I knew as a child, formerly called the Boston Garden.
So when the Boston Police Officers and others told me I was brave inside the Garden and to come alone, I didn’t see it that way.
