The name “Jan Vesely” will forever be etched in the memories of Washington Wizards fans.
After David Stern called the Czech’s name with the sixth overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft, he passionately kissed his girlfriend, walked up the stage with his Wizards hat on and gave off the most resounding “bust” aura ever.
Everyone in the room, including Vesely – who called Blake Griffin the American Vesely – knew that the Wizards just made a huge mistake.
The late Flip Saunders wanted the Wizards to draft Klay Thompson, who was lower on most draft boards than Vesely, but Ernie Grunfeld was set on selecting the bust.
