Following a three-game road trip, the Washington Mystics (7–9) suffered a lopsided 90–71 defeat against the Connecticut Sun (11–5) on Tuesday evening.
It was a dismal start to the game for the Mystics, who put up a paltry four points through the opening six minutes. But thanks to 12-points from Tina Charles — the league’s leading scorer — Washington ended the frame down three. Connecticut put up eight offensive rebounds in the first, and Jonquel Jones (29 points) — who recently returned from Spain — erupted for 14 points on 6-for-12 shooting.
A three-point deficit ballooned to a 16-point gap in favor of the Sun at halftime in a contest the hosts never led.
