On Sunday, the Washington Mystics announced that they signed Alecia “Sug” Sutton and waived Essence Carson to make room for her on the roster.
Sutton was Washington’s third round pick in the 2020 WNBA Draft, but was cut without a look in training camp due to the season’s delay from the coronavirus pandemic. Sutton played her college basketball career at Texas where she also spent time alongside starting guard Ariel Atkins.
Carson averaged 4.3 points per game with the Mystics and appeared in all 10 of their games this season to date. Though she played a significant amount of time off the bench, Carson also shot a career-low 28.
