On Friday, the Phoenix Mercury announced that Kristi Toliver will be theor associate head coach. Toliver was previously an assistant coach for the Washington Wizards (2018-20) and Dallas Mavericks, where she was the first active WNBA player to coach an NBA team.
With this news, Toliver has also retired from the WNBA as a player. She played the 2022 season with the Washington Mystics where she only played 11 games and tore her ACL. But Mystics fans will better remember Toliver as the starting point guard who made two of her three All-Star appearances and being part of Washington’s 2019 championship team during her stint from 2017.
