On Thursday, the Washington Wizards announced that Ian Mahinmi will sit out for six weeks due to a strained right Achilles tendon. The news was first reported on Monday at Media Day by head coach Scott Brooks.
Mahinmi will miss all of training camp and at least the first two to three weeks of the regular season. He was projected to play behind third-year center Thomas Bryant anyway, but Mahinmi could have provided some relief in spurts when Bryant needs a breather. Now, it appears that Moritz Wagner will have the go-ahead to be the second center in the rotation.
