Ian Mahinmi, the Wizards’ biggest signing of the offseason, will not be available for the start of the season after suffering a knee injury in Thursday's preseason game against the 76ers. The team broke the news in a press release Saturday morning:

The Washington Wizards announced today that center Ian Mahinmi has suffered a partially torn medial meniscus in his left knee. The injury occurred in Thursday’s game vs. Philadelphia. An MRI performed on Friday revealed the partial tear and Mahinmi underwent successful surgery Friday evening.
