Today is July 4th, when the United States declared independence from Great Britain back in 1776. This is generally a day when we have barbecues, and large social gatherings before an evening fireworks show.
But with the coronavirus pandemic and movements putting attention on systemic racism in the country, I’m not sure how to even recognize this day, this year.
Overall, I’m one who’s optimistic about the ideals of the United States, even though our country has many flaws. I think the coming days and weeks should give us all inspiration to reflect more on how we can make America a society without systemic racism.
