Dwight Howard likely needs surgery for gluteal issue, according to report

Dwight Howard will likely need surgery to address the issues that have caused him to miss 12 of the Wizards’ first 21 games, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

Howard received a recommendation from a nerve specialist in Los Angeles on Thursday and might seek further consultation before making a final decision on a surgery that would cause him to miss a significant portion of the regular season.

It’s unclear exactly how long “significant” is here, but it’s hard to be optimistic given Howard’s age and long-standing back issues.
