The USA Basketball women’s national team won 90-75 against Japan on Sunday morning in the gold medal game. The win gives the Americans their seventh consecutive gold medal, dating back to the 1996 games in Atlanta.
Team USA never trailed in the game as they shot 54 percent from the field and held Japan to 36 percent shooting over all and under 26 percent shooting from three, one of their traditional strengths. Brittney Griner led the Americans with a 30 point performance. A’ja Wilson added 19 points and Breanna Stewart added 14 more.
Washington Mystics center Tina Charles played 10 minutes in the game but was scoreless.
