WSU quarterback Tyler Hilinski, 21, found dead of apparent suicide

Pullman, Wash. police have confirmed that Washington State quarterback Tyler Hilinski has died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was 21 years old.

According to the police report, officers responded to Hilinski’s residence for a welfare check after he did not show up for practice. Officers found Hilinski deceased with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. A rifle and note were recovered nearby.

An investigation to confirm the manner of death is ongoing.

Hilinski was a redshirt sophomore with the WSU Cougars football team. He appeared in eight games in the 2017 season, and was expected to assume a starting role in the fall of 2018.
