WSU hires Tracy Claeys as defensive coordinator to replace Alex Grinch

If you can’t beat them, hire them.

After losing two-consecutive bowl games to Big Ten teams, Washington State has hired a Big Ten defensive coordinator.

Sources confirmed Monday afternoon that WSU has hired former Minnesota head coach Tracy Claeys as defensive coordinator, to replace Alex Grinch, who recently accepted an assistant coaching position at Ohio State.

Minneapolis Star-Tribune reporter Joe Christensen first broke the news of the hire.

Claeys has been out of football this season, but was last the head coach of Minnesota in 2016, when he led the Golden Gophers to a 9-4 record and a win over WSU in the Holiday Bowl.
