“Though Donnie and his staff have worked hard over the past 11 years it is my feeling that a change in leadership at this time was necessary to get Cougar baseball back to a position of prominence,” athletic director Bill Moos said in a statement.
Marbut compiled a 314-304 record at Washington State. Good enough for third in most-wins in program history behind Bobo Brayton and Buck Bailey.
Additionally, Marbut guided the Cougars to a 29-27 record this year. The 29 wins were the most by a WSU team since 2010.
However, after taking the reins of the program in 2005 and guiding the Cougars to success and postseason appearances in 2009 and 2010, the second half of Marbut’s tenure at WSU was rocky.
