For the second year in a row, Washington State defensive coordinator Alex Grinch has been nominated for the Broyles Award, which goes to the top assistant coach in college football annually.
Two years into his first stint as a defensive coordinator, Grinch, 36, is considered an up-and-coming young coach in college football. In two years at WSU, Grinch has helped the Cougars become the top rushing defense in the Pac-12, while significantly improving WSU’s takeaway numbers and reducing the average number of points the Cougars have allowed by about two touchdowns per game (compared to the 2014 season).
