There was an expectation heading into this season that the Cougars, who have yet to produce a single running back with more than 87 rushing attempts or run for more than 430 yards in a single season under Mike Leach at Washington State, would place a bigger emphasis on running the football.
And they've certainly done so.
As redshirt sophomore Gerard Wicks has already amassed 78 totes through eight games, leading a rushing attack that's averaging close to 100 yards per game, not counting sack yardage because, well, obviously.
The numbers aren't going to wow you, but Wicks, Jamal Morrow and Keith Harrington, also collectively known as Earth, Wind and Fire, as termed by running backs coach Jim Mastro, are on pace to put together one of the most efficient combined rushing seasons a Mike Leach offense has produced.
