One of the nation’s top amateur golf tournaments needed two extra holes to be decided Friday at the Seattle Golf Club.
Will Zalatoris, a junior-to-be who is on the Arnold Palmer Scholarship at Wake Forest University, won the 50th Pacific Coast Amateur in a playoff with Nahum Mendoza, a San Diego native who will be a senior at San Diego State.
“To eke this one out, especially over a close friend of mine, is pretty special,” Zalatoris said.
Mendoza had a chance to win in regulation on the 72nd hole after blasting out of a bunker to 4 feet but missed the putt.
