Washington State rallied with two runs in the ninth inning and scored two more in the 10th inning to beat Texas State 9-8 in 10 innings in the finale of a season-opening four-game baseball series in San Marcos, Texas, on Monday.
Down four runs to start the seventh inning, the Cougars scored twice in the seventh and two more in the ninth to send the game to extra innings. In the 10th, Stefan Van Horn hit a homer. Jack Strunc followed with a double and scored on Derek Chapman’s sacrifice fly.
In the bottom of the 10th, Texas State opened with a double and RBI single.
