Shorewood High School pitcher Ian Oxnevad was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in the eighth round of the Major League Baseball draft Tuesday.
The left-hander, who was a Star Times selection this spring and led the Thunderbirds to the 3A state championship game, was the 251st selection overall.
Oxnevad has signed with Oregon State and must now weigh his options.
Also drafted Tuesday were former University of Washington catcher Austin Rei (third round, Red Sox) and former Washington State reliever Sam Triece (10th round, Rays).
Others drafted were Gonzaga pitcher Andrew Sopko (seventh round, Dodgers); Mount Si pitcher Reece Karalus (eighth, Rays); Gonzaga third baseman Mitchell Gunsolus (10th, Red Sox).
