REDWOOD VALLEY, Calif. (AP) — Sheriff’s officials in Northern California say they came across Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl during a marijuana raid.
Bergdahl is the soldier who left his post in Afghanistan and was held by the Taliban for five years before the Obama administration exchanged him for five senior Taliban officials held at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, in 2014.
He has been charged with desertion and misbehavior before the enemy and faces up to life in prison if convicted. Bergdahl is awaiting his court martial at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, texas.
