This year's MLB draft had a decidedly local flavor for the Cougars as two players and one top recruit were selected by the hometown nine. The Seattle Mariners selected all-Pac-12 pitcher Joe Pistorese in the 17th round, catcher P.J. Jones in the 19th round and top pitching recruit Parker McFadden in the 20th.
McFadden is still expected to be heading to WSU, however, as most top draft prospects drafted after the tenth round do not sign. This is due to the fact that MLB bonus rules require money to be taken out of the pool for the team's top ten picks if a player selected in round eleven or above demands more than $100,000.
