Sea-Tac checkpoint shut down briefly after pepper spray discharged

A security checkpoint at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport was shut down for 20 minutes Saturday morning after a canister of bear spray was accidentally discharged.

It happened at security Checkpoint 3 for the Central Terminal and B and C gates about 10:30 a.m.

The pepper spray, which belonged to a passenger, irritated the eyes and throats of many in the area, but none were injured or hospitalized, according to Port of Seattle airport spokesman Kevin Jeffries.
