Robert Allenby fires his caddie during 1st round

OAKVILLE, Ontario — PGA Tour veteran Robert Allenby fired his caddie halfway through the first round of the Canadian Open on Thursday, and a fan jumped in to caddie his last nine holes.

Allenby and his caddie, Mick Middlemo, disagreed about what club he should use for his fourth shot on the par-5 13th at Glen Abbey Golf Club.

The argument escalated after Allenby tripled the hole. The two made it to the 18th hole before Allenby told Middlemo he was fired.

In different media reports each claimed the other became verbally abusive.

Allenby still had nine more holes to play.
