Washington State has hired Steve Spurrier Jr. outside receivers coach, per reports from multiple media outlets, including the Bowling Green Daily News.
Spurrier Jr. is the son of legendary Florida coach Steve Spurrier, and he comes to WSU from Western Kentucky, where he served as quarterbacks coach and assistant head coach.
Spurrier Jr. will replace Derek Sage, who left WSU last week to join Chip Kelly’s staff at UCLA.
Prior to his one-year stint at Western Kentucky, Spurrier Jr. served as Oklahoma’s offensive and recruiting specialist. But the bulk of his coaching career has been at South Carolina, where, working under his father, he coached the receivers before working his way up to co-offensive coordinator from 2012-15.
