The Mariners (44-52) ended their seven-game road trip with a 3-4 record.
DETROIT — Mike Zunino rolled his eyes in frustration over his failure. Twice he had tried to bunt the go-ahead run to second base in the top of the 12th inning, and twice he couldn’t do the job with foul balls on both attempts.
It seemed as though he was destined for a strikeout — he had done so 106 times this season — and the Mariners were destined to play more innings on a getaway day.
But his bunting failures turned to extra base-hit fortune and eventually a 3-2 Mariners victory over the Tigers in 12 innings at Comerica Park.
