Mercer Island golfer Charlie Kern wins Washington State Men’s Amateur

Charlie Kern of Mercer Island played steady golf over three rounds, shooting 71-72-72, to win the 89th Washington State Men’s Amateur Championship Thursday at Suncadia Resort in Cle Elum.

Kern, a recent graduate of William & Mary in Virginia, finished tied for seventh at the Sahalee Players Championship last month, and the following week won medalist honors at the PNGA Men’s Amateur.
