Thompson became the third Washington State Cougar ever to win an NBA championship ring.
However, the former WSU sharpshooter has accomplished something his crimson predecessors have not.
Aaron Baynes, former WSU center/power forward, was part of the San Antonio team that won an NBA title in 2014. Other than that, the last and only other Cougar to win a championship was Gene Conley. He won three straight in 1958-59, 1959-60 and 1960-61. Conley was Bill Russell's backup on the Boston Celtics and Baynes was also a reserve.
Meanwhile, Thompson was a starter on Golden State’s championship team.
