Get a vintage look at Washington state parks through the eyes of photographer Asahel Curtis at an exhibit opening Aug. 1 in Tacoma.
The rare photos, taken during the Great Depression, show the early years of some beloved state parks, including Moran State Park on Orcas Island.
The exhibit, “Washington State Parks through the Lens of Asahel Curtis,” runs Aug. 1 to Oct. 31 at the Washington State History Museum’s Community Gallery (1911 Pacific Ave., Tacoma, washingtonhistory.org/visit/wshm). It’s a small exhibit, just 18 photos, but it’s evocative and with free admission.
Curtis was a pioneering photographer in the Pacific Northwest during the first half of the 20th century.
