PHOENIX, Ariz. – Wes Leow’s RBI single in the 10th inning scored P.J. Jones with the games long run as Washington State edged No. 12 Arizona State, 1-0, in extra innings Friday at Phoenix Municipal Stadium.
Following nine innings without a run, Washington State (28-24, 10-16) broke through in the 10th as Jones drew a one-out walk and move to second on a wild pitch. One out later, Leow pinch hit for Jack Strunc and lined a 1-1 through the left side, scoring Jones for the eventual winning run.
In the bottom of the frame Ian Hamilton came on in relief of Cougar starter Joe Pistorese and retired all three Arizona State (31-19, 16-10) batters he faced to record his 13th save of the season, tying him for the Pac-12 lead.
