WENATCHEE — The Chelan County Sheriff’s Office has rescued a hiker who injured his ankle in the North Cascades.
Sheriff Brian Burnett says 51-year-old Jonathan Reiss of Bellingham was injured when he fell near the ridgeline above Thunder Basin.
Thunder Basin is about 10 miles northwest of Lake Wenatchee.
The initial call was made by someone in Reiss’s climbing party on Friday night.
They said Reiss had suffered a severely sprained ankle and couldn’t hike out. They said he was in his tent and had plenty of food and water to last several days.
A Chelan County deputy and a medic with the Cascade Medical Center were flown to the site on Saturday.
