SAN FRANCISCO – Washington State track and field freshman hurdler Micaela De Mello was named the Pac-12 Women's Track Athlete of the Week by the league offices Tuesday, March 22. It is the first time that De Mello has earned the distinction in her WSU career.
The freshman from Palhoca, Brazil broke Washington State's 100m hurdles record this past Saturday, March 19, at the Baldy Castillo Invitational in Tempe, Arizona. De Mello clocked in at 13.08 seconds to win the 100m hurdles. She broke Diana Pickler's previous program record by 0.17 seconds, which was set back in 2007 in Sacramento.
