PHOENIX, Ariz. – Ryan Kellogg threw a five-hit, complete-game shutout as No. 12 Arizona State opened the series with a 5-0 victory over Washington State Thursday at Phoenix Municipal Stadium.
After getting out of jams in the second and third when Washington State (27-24, 9-16) had a runner at third with less than two outs, Kellogg settled into a groove. Following a leadoff double by Cameron Frost to open the third, Kellogg retired 16 straight until a one-out single by Brennon Kaleiwahea in the eighth. His night ended with 11 strikeouts and no walks allowed as he improved to 8-1.
