EL PASO, Texas — Robert Franks missed a three-pointer with 31 seconds left that would have lifted Washington State into a tie, and Texas-El Paso held off the Cougars for a 76-69 victory on Saturday night.

After Franks’ miss, UTEP was 6 of 6 from the foul line in the final 22 seconds to secure the victory.

It was the third straight loss for Washington State (6-3) after it had opened the season with six straight wins, including winning the Wooden Legacy Tournament in late November.

The Cougars led 42-39 at halftime, but the Miners (3-6) led for most of the second half.
