Cougar Links: Wildfires might force WSU to reschedule opener vs. Portland State

The wildfires in eastern Washington have affected air quality so drastically that the Cougars are mulling the idea of rescheduling their Sept. 5 home opener against Portland State, the Spokesman-Review’s Jacob Thorpe reports.

The Air Quality Index on Tuesday was 85, according to AirNow.gov, but the Cougars have to monitor the AQI closely because anything above 100 is considered unhealthy for people with lung problems, older adults and children.

“We’re watching it really close,” Washington State Athletic Director Bill Moos told the Spokesman-Review. “Of course we are concerned about the health and safety of our student athletes and our fans, as well as coaches and staff.
