There’s a memorable scene in Christmas Vacation where Cousin Eddy has Clark’s boss tied up after kidnapping him and bringing him home. After talking about cutting Christmas bonuses, Clark Griswald’s boss, Frank says, “Sometimes things look good on paper, but lose their luster when you see how it affects real folks.”

The beginning of this particular quote encapsulates the 2000 Washington Redskins. From high draft picks to big name free agents to Super Bowl expectations after winning the division the year prior, this was a team that, on paper, had all the makings of a championship team.
