McCloughan: RGIII option doesn’t impact draft plans

General manager Scot McCloughan said the decision to pick up the fifth-year option on Robert Griffin III’s contract will not impact his decision-making in this weekend’s NFL draft.

Although Washington will retain Griffin’s rights for the 2016 season, the team still could draft a quarterback – as early as with their first pick (fifth overall) – should one of the top prospects remain on the board at that point, McCloughan said.

“Does not affect the draft process whatsoever,” McCloughan said Monday during his pre-draft press conference.
