Davey Martinez was hot. Austin Voth was getting squeezed, or so the Nationals thought, and they let home plate ump Carlos Torres hear it. It came from the visitor’s dugout in Citi Field. It also came from the stands, where some of Washington’s players who weren’t in the game were sitting and watching. One voice caught Torres’s attention. It was Stephen Strasburg. It ended with an ejection. Strasburg got tossed while sitting in the stands.
“I actually thought the umpire threw me out of the game, so I was kind of heated up,” Davey Martinez told reporters after a loss to the Mets in the series finale in New York.
