Former Nationals outfielder Jayson Werth will be honored Saturday before Washington hosts the Chicago Cubs in a rematch of last year’s NLDS.
Werth will be inducted into the Nationals Ring of Honor as part of Jayson Werth Appreciation Day at Nationals Park.
A native of Springfield, Illinois, he was a first-round draft pick out of high school by the Baltimore Orioles in 1997. He played in Frederick and Bowie in the Orioles system on his way up the minor league ladder before he was traded to Toronto.
Werth was eventually part of a World Series winner with the Phillies in 2008 and then signed a multi-year deal with the Nationals prior to the 2011 season.
