Washington Nationals Send Jonathan Papelbon To The 15-Day DL

One day after Dusty Baker deemed him unavailable in Monday night’s 4-1 win over the Chicago Cubs, Washington Nationals closer Jonathan Papelbon has landed on the 15-Day Disabled List with an intercostal strain:

Papelbon currently ranks seventh in the National League in saves (16), having posted a modest 3.28 ERA in 25 appearances so far this season: He has been the team’s closer since he was traded to the Nats prior to the trade deadline last season and has converted 23 of his 27 save opportunities since joining the team.
