In order to make room on the 40-Man roster for Jeremy Hellickson, who returned for second season in D.C. on a 1-year/$1.3M deal last week, the Washington Nationals designated 26-year-old reliever Trevor Gott for assignment.
Gott, who was acquired from the Los Angeles Angels in a December 2015 trade for infielder Yunel Escobar, has now been traded to the San Francisco Giants according to a report by The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal.
Gott, a hard-throwing right-hander who debuted in the majors with LA in 2015, was talked about as a potential future back end arm when he was acquired, but he struggled in limited time in the majors in three seasons with the Nats, posting a 7.
