Washington’s decision to release left-hander Sammy Solis (after avoiding arbitration and signing him to a 1-year/$850,000 deal this winter) left them with two left-handed relievers on their 40-Man roster: closer Sean Doolittle, and left-hander Matt Grace, and one other left-hander in camp this Spring, veteran Vidal Nuño, who has impressed the Nationals’ second-year manager Davey Martinez.
“What I like about [Nuño] is that he’s got a little funk to him,” Martinez told reporters this past weekend, as quoted by Washington Post writer Jesse Dougherty.
“His ball, all of a sudden, comes out of nowhere and it is on top of you.
