Washington Nationals’ GM Mike Rizzo explained, in the immediate aftermath of the injury to Trea Turner’s index finger on his right hand earlier this month, why he wasn’t going to bring Carter Kieboom, the top infield prospect in the organization, up right away to play shortstop in Turner’s absence.
“We don’t feel that he’s ready to play shortstop in the big leagues on an everyday level at this time,” Rizzo told 106.7 the FAN in D.C.’s Sports Junkies in an April 3rd interview.
“We’ve seen this before. A couple years ago Trea got hit on the wrist and was out for a couple months and [Wilmer] Difo filled in and he played great, so we feel that he’s a very, very capable reinforcement over there at shortstop.
