Washington Nationals’ skipper Davey Martinez reiterated on Sunday that they still hoped to avoid having to put injured infielder Anthony Rendon on the Injured List after Rendon was hit on the left elbow during Saturday night’s game in Miami.
“I figured he was going to be stiff today,” Martinez said of Rendon, “so I even told him last night we wasn’t going to play. We’ll see how he feels throughout the day today and then we’ll go from there.”
With the Nats’ bench short, however, Martinez said Michael A. Taylor, who was drafted as a shortstop before being converted into an outfielder, would potentially be used as a backup infielder if needed.
